Brooklyn Beckham has taken his first steps in following father David onto the football field.

Mother Victoria Beckham took Brooklyn to the session in Knutsford, Cheshire, and Brooklyn was given the chance to improve his skills.

He was dressed in an England kit and wore the number seven - the same number his father wears for Manchester United and England.

Baby brother Romeo also attended the session, dressed in a blue tracksuit with his name written across the back in white letters.

England captain David Beckham is to make a televised appeal warning the team could be thrown out of Euro 2004 if supporters continue to misbehave.

Beckham will appear on BBC1, ITV and Sky before Tuesday's friendly against Serbia and Montenegro to ask England supporters to avoid a repeat of the ugly scenes at the last international on home soil.

In April, the Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey was marred by pitch invasions and disturbances outside the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

After next week's match, England will host Slovakia at Middlesbrough's Riverside ground in another European Championships qualifier.

Beckham is concerned about the consequences should there be more trouble.

He said: "It shouldn't happen. If it does again we will be thrown out of Euro 2004.

"We have to be careful about our celebrations.

"I don't believe the players were responsible but we have to cut it down.

"We have to celebrate in the middle of the pitch instead of by the corner flag. We want to stay in the competition."

FA spokesman Adrian Bevington said: "David regards this as hugely important and his message is directed at England fans everywhere.

"He knows the gravity of this situation.

"We, as a country, have had a very serious warning about our future conduct and no self-respecting fan wants the team playing behind closed doors or even being thrown out of a tournament."

Uefa confirmed on Wednesday, it would not hesitate to throw England out of the European Championships if supporters caused trouble.

=========================

David Beckham may consider the sacrifices of a move to Madrid are not worthwhile. Wanting to play for Real Madrid is one thing, but living in Spain is something quite different and that is one of the obstacles that must be overcome if David Beckham is to move to the Bernabéu this summer as the most expensive English footballer in history.

Nothing that happened at Old Trafford on Wednesday night went against the tide of speculation suggesting that Beckham will move for more than £30 million, but there are complications that tend to be skipped over. Personal issues, for instance, which are more important to the England captain than the professional kudos of joining a club that will surely win the European Cup for the third time in four seasons. They raise the remarkable prospect that, if he is sold, it could be against his will.

It has become all too easy to assume that Beckham longs to play alongside Zinedine Zidane, Raúl and Ronaldo, but let us consider for a moment the reasons why he might want to stay among old friends and turn his back on the chance of becoming the latest galactico.

While the player can envisage knocking passes around with the world's greatest stars, the husband and father in him has other considerations. His wife, Victoria, has only just agreed a new record deal and has a career to pursue in London. He has two young children and also a wider family who could not just pack their bags and move to Madrid.

He must also have weighed up by now what he might be sacrificing if he was to move to Real. He would almost certainly never be taken back by Manchester United, not if Sir Alex Ferguson was there, so he would have to be prepared to pull on the shirt of another English side when he returned, as he surely would. Would it be worth sacrificing five years of chasing glory with United for one or two seasons, which is all he would probably want, at Real?

He would back himself to find a place in the Real side, however many superstars were available to Vicente Del Bosque, the coach, but, from the experiences of other English players who have gone abroad, he will know that it can be a tough existence and not just because of the language. All are reasons why Beckham is not as firmly committed to a move abroad as is widely believed, although that does not mean that the transfer might not happen provided that Real confirm their interest with a bid of at least £30 million.

A deal can happen whether the player wants it to or not, as Jaap Stam discovered when he fitted a new kitchen to his house in Cheshire only to be told by Ferguson within a couple of days that he should pack his bags for Rome. With Ronaldinho in United's sights and a new goalkeeper to be bought among other improvements, money is needed to finance the renovation of Ferguson's squad, so a big offer would be almost impossible for United to resist.

It remains to be seen whether Real, as Ferguson has claimed, simply flirted with Beckham to unsettle the player ahead of the European Cup quarter-final, which ended with a 6-5 aggregate victory for the Spanish club, or whether they are ready to confirm their interest by putting money on the table. But the increased tension in the player's relationship with his manager is doing little to convince him that he should stay at the club that he has supported since childhood.

Two stubborn men, Beckham and Ferguson, appear to have forgotten how good they can be for each other. It is doubtful whether any XI he selected could have overcome Real over two legs, but the Scotsman clearly erred in leaving Beckham out of his starting XI on Wednesday. He justified the choice by claiming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's form had made the Norwegian undroppable, but he could easily have found space for Beckham ahead of a half-fit Juan Sebastián Verón.
